Two
of Vulcano’s beaches
are nestled near the main town. The “Sabbie
Nere” (Black Sand Beach) so called because
of its black sand of volcanic origin stretches
along a fine bay, the beach of the “Fumarole”
is bathed by warm waters that are heated
by bubbles of sulphurous steam. The seclude
but beautiful and less frequented “Gelso”
beach in on the opposite side of the island.
Excursions to the “Grotta del Cavallo” and
“Piscina di Venere” are highly recommended.
To reach these places you will enjoy the
view of Vulcano’s most beautiful jagged
shoreline sometimes resembling tentacles
plunging into the sea, its colour ranging
from red to yellow and featuring a scenery
of wild and haunting beauty. This is a paradise
for skin and scuba divers, where the sea
depths are stunning with sponges and orange
coloured corals. Read more about the Terme.
